  • he jiong, bai jingting, zhang ruoyun, wei chen, liu haoran, wang ou, and a bunch of other people

  • this is my lifeline variety. my comfort show. what got me back into c-ent.

  • the directors continue to make new, creative, interesting stories and it rarely gets boring

  • its a crime-solving/mystery variety show where the celebs take on roles in different stories each episode and solve a whodunnit. it's really the basis for me getting into crime/mystery cdramas

  • i really recommend seasons 2-4 (those are my favorites)

delicious romance 爱很美味

  • li chun, wang ju, zhang hanyun

  • such a good, actually female-centric modern drama!! i literally cannot recommend it enough

  • it's relevant and funny without being cringey, but also is so so so comforting and insightful to watch as a young woman -> seeing all of these women on screen living their lives and doing their thing is so comforting

  • i bawled my eyes out while watching parts of the finale

strange tales of tang dynasty 唐朝诡事录 (s1-s2)

  • yang xuwen, yang zhigang

  • the cases are fun (watched most episodes all the way through without skipping) and it's not too scary and i really enjoy the vibe the show has (its a moody, luxurious vibe that really fits my image of the tang dynasty)

  • the crimes here are mainly debunking ghost tales and urban legends (as my friend says "it's tang dynasty scooby doo") and it has a pretty good group dynamic between the main characters

  • a dash of politics and shows the struggle between justice and having power/authority (in order to enact justice)

  • high quality side characters (and extras!!), some of the best historical drama fight scenes i've ever seen, surprising social commentary, and more!

mysterious lotus casebook 莲花楼
(8.8/10)

  • cheng yi, zheng shunxi, xiao shunyao, chen duling, wang herun, etc.

  • proper wuxia drama about.... second chance at life? revenge (kinda)

  • grandpa-like li lianhua (cheng yi) gets pulled back into the jianghu through a string of cases that our lil detective fang duobing (zeng shunxi) is investigating.

  • as li lianhua is pulled back deeper into these jianghu politics, he has to grapple with his past and if he should confront his legacy.

  • really fun and a little campy (thank you, di feisheng (xiao shunyao)), but a whole lotta heart. towards the end, as more of the past is unravelled, you come to really feel for these characters and their world.

  • really good drama about legacy, what defines a person (is it their legacy? is it their current self..?), and learning to let go and live life.

  • a really really fun crime/mystery drama about a forensic sketch artist and his criminal police work partner

  • the cases that they solve are really fun and interesting to watch (though albeit a little predictable)

  • unexpected chemistry between the male leads (its "friendship" though not romantic (but it is heh))
